As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across the country and Indiana, Jackson County United Way is strategically working on our response. 

Like many of you, our internal team is assessing the situation daily, remaining vigilant, and following all recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and local public health authorities (Jackson County Health Department and Schneck Medical Center). 

While we remain focused on the health and safety of our staff and those around us, we also are determined to provide continued service to the community. We are taking steps to ensure we can continue to deliver the same high level of quality and engagement during unique circumstances. With so many Jackson County residence experiencing hardship during such pandemic, we want to make sure we are sharing all available community resources in one easy accessible location.

Childcare Assistance

  • Childcare assistance for school aged children
  • Operation Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Boys & Girls Club of Seymour is offering breakfast, lunch, and a snack daily to each child. Additionally, they are offering eLearning and other enrichment activities 
  • They are open to ANY child in the area that needs to utilize their program 
  • They are NOT offering any drop-in programs at this time, but are requesting all children to be preregistered and signed in by an adult

Child Care Network

  • Child Care Network is providing consultation for groups wanting to begin providing child care while several others are closed
  • Call 812-524-2585; Monday though Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Children's Special Advocate Program

  • CASA program is continuing to provide a voice for children that have been abused or neglected
  • Call 812-524-2585; Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Health Care Coverage 

  • Covering Kids & Families can help if you've recently lost health coverage or if you don't have any at all 

Emotional Support Assistance 

  • Anyone over the age of 60, or anyone who has a disability may call Thrive Alliance at 1-877-644-6407 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to be connected to the Senior Line
  • Between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., staff will be available to chat via Thrive Alliance's online chat service which can be acessed by simply going to www.thrive-alliance.org 

Financial Assistance

  • Military Family Relief Fund COVID-19 Special Application: in.gov/dva/
 
  • DFR's physical locations are currently closed, however you can take advantage of the online and telephone services
  • Online service: www.fssabenefits.in.gov
  • Telephone service: 800-403-0864 (telephone service available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Hoosiers in need of food or cash assistance are encouraged to submit applications online: www.fssabenefits.in.gov 
 
  • Verizon will waive late fees for 60 days from March 16, 2020 to May 13, 2020
  • They will also not terminate service to a customer who's been impacted by the involving Coronavirus 
  • If customers are experiencing a hardship, they should call our customer service team to discuss their situation and available options: Call *611 from your phone 

Food Assistance

  • Food deliveries only: call 812-522-9308 or text 812-216-2516.
  • Provide name, address, phone number, and if you will be home for the delivery.
  • Food will be delivered during normal pantry hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays and noon to 5 p.m., Thursdays
  • Beginning April 1, Anchor House will change to once-a-month delivery which will include the same amount as two deliveries
Brownstown Community Food Aid
  • Food assistance available for BCCSC students 
  • Email all information except bus number to BCfoodaid@gmail.com, and someone will deliver the food or provide a convenient point for pickup
  • For those who live outside the school corporation but attend Brownstown schools, someone will deliver food
 
  • FREE breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (now until the beginning of April)

  • Double Down Outreach will continue to serve the Wednesday night meal from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. between the Sunshine Cafe and Taco Bell (east of I-65) in Seymour
  • They will be serving food only at this time (not referrals)  
  • Open every third Monday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and every third Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Kids Pantry opens Tuesday, March 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Only 10 people, including staff, in the church at one time
  • If you or someone you know is pregnant, recently had a baby, or has a child under 5, the Jackson County WIC office can issue benenfits over the phone

  • Now until April 3, Medora Community Schools will serve student lunches to-go between 11:00 a.m. and noon each day at the school

  • Students who live along a bus route in Carr Township may call and order lunch to be delivered- call 812-966-2201 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • Seymour Community Schools will be providing grab and go breakfast and lunch meals while schools are closed 
  • There will be no cost for theses meals 
  • Upon request, families may take home up to three breakfast and three lunch meals per child
  • Curbside pick up is available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Families can pick up meals at any serving location (see list below), regardless of where their child(ren) attend school

Remote e-Learning Assistance (educators and students)

  • The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is dedicted to providing the best resources for educators and families during this time of extended remote learning
  • Click on "remote learning assistance" above to find continuously updated resources throughout the next several weeks 

​Taxes Assistance

  • Through United Way's partnership with H&R Block, every household with a simple return can file their federal and state taxes for FREE
  • Tax Day now is July 15

Utility Assistance

  • Duke Energy will be suspending disconnections for nonpayment effective immediately
  • If you have other customer service related needs go to Duke Energy's Customer Service Page
 
  • Applictions for the Energy Assistance Program will be available upon request 
  • You can call 812-522-8718 to request an application to be mailed 

Wi-Fi Assistance 

  • Waiving late fees for any wireless, home phone, broadband residential or small business customer experiencing hardships because of the coronavirus pandemic and can't pay their bill
  • Qualifying low income households can apply for $10 a month internet acess through the Access from AT&T program
  • Fixed Wireless Internet and Wireline customers can use unlimited internet data
  • AT&T will also keep public Wi-Fi hotspots open
 
  • For 60 days, Charter Communications will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access to homes with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a subscription
  • Installation fees will also be waived for these households
  • Enroll by calling 844-488-8395
  • Charter will also continue Spectrum Internet Assistance; a program offering low-cost broadband internet of 30 Mbps for low-income households without school-aged children
  • 60 days free and increased speed for new families who join the internet essentials program
  • FREE Wi-Fi hotspots and homework help (this is not a day care and they do not function as one)

Medora Community Schools- eLearning lesson download help
  • Now until April 3, adminstration will be available from 11:00 a.m. and noon each day to help students download eLearning lessons

  • Current customers; MetroNet is offering a no-obligation Speedboost to get you the speeds you need- call 1-877-407-3224 and they will boost your current speed for the next 60 days for free
