Rock'n Ready Supply Drive to Support Jackson County Students

Rock’n Ready Supply Drive Registration is now open!

The 6th annual Rock’n Ready School Supply registration is now open! Rock’n Ready is a collaboration of organizations whose goal is to ensure children throughout Jackson County will have basic school supplies. The goal is to make sure Jackson County students arrive prepared with basic supplies and increased self-confidence on the first day of school.

Myra Mellencamp, along with Julia Aker, co-chair the Rock’n Ready Supply drive for the second year. Mellencamp states “The Rock-N-Ready program has enriched the lives of children in Jackson County for many years. To see the excitement on the faces of kids as they pick out a backpack and fill it with school supplies is heart-warming.  As those of us who volunteer hear "thank you" over and over, we realize the importance of this program, especially when a parent confides that he or she wasn't sure how school supplies will fit into the family's budget.”

Mellencamp continues “The collaboration in our county that makes this happen is amazing.  As we prepare for 2018, I want to thank the new partnerships that have been formed to expand the program directly to the other school districts in Jackson County.  It is exciting to be able to reach out to more students who may not be able to attend the event in Seymour.”

In an effort to reach more students, the program will expand to host distribution of supplies at different locations in Jackson County; students will now be able to pick up supplies in the school district they attend. These distribution dates and locations are: Brownstown Middle School, July 28th from 11:00 am to 1 pm, Crothersville Schools, July 26th from 8 am to 8 pm, Medora School, August 3rd from 4 -6 pm and Seymour High School Commons, July 28th from 10 am to 2 pm. Brownstown and Seymour families will receive a post card prior to the event with the time they may pick up supplies; this card must be presented at the time of sign in. Medora and Crothersville student must still register to receive supplies however they will not have an assigned time for pick-up of those supplies.

“In my 32 years at the library, this is my favorite community collaboration involving county schools.” stated Aker.  “I'm excited to expand our distribution into Brownstown, Crothersville, and Medora this year and look forward to seeing this continue to help the families who need it."
